I'm posting to promote a fundraising campaign for my latest film project about my family's farm in Indiana and my efforts to reconcile my interest in promoting local, more sustainable food production with the reality of the commodity crop agriculture in the Midwest.
Mumford Farms
In a world obsessed with local food production, is there a future for my family’s corn and soybeans farm in Southern Indiana?
After my rooftop garden wilted in the summer heat, I left locavore-crazed Brooklyn for Indiana to see how the farm that belongs to my family is connected to the food system in America. But as I challenged my uncles to question the future of row crop agriculture, I was forced to recognize that changing where our food comes from may require a more radical transformation in my own life.
Over the last year, I’ve completed two film shoots in Indiana, and I am planning to return for a third trip this summer. With the footage from my first two shoots, I edited a 10-minute preview of Mumford Farms, which has screened at the Anthology Film Archives in NYC, the Stanford Alumni Film Festival, Big Vision Empty Wallet’s Earth Day screening, and the Northside Film Festival.
I am fundraising to help cover my next shoot, as well as for the funding I need to edit what I’ve shot into a full-length documentary film. Check out all the amazing rewards for contributing!
